PigeonRaceAnalyser › Pigeon Velocity CalculatorWork out your racing pigeon's speed in metres per minute (m/min) — the South African and European standard — or let the AI-Assisted ETA predict the arrival time from live race-day wind. Free, and it runs in your browser on a phone or PC.
Enter your loft GPS, the liberation point and the release time. It pulls the live ECMWF wind along the whole flight path, projects a winning velocity and works out when the first birds are due — with the headwind or tailwind the flock actually meets. Calibrated on real race data; nothing is uploaded.
Accuracy note — most accurate on race day. The predictor reads the live wind forecast along the flight path, and wind forecasts change as race day approaches. A prediction pulled on Monday for a Saturday race can differ from the one on race morning — that is the forecast moving, not the model. Check again the night before or on basketing morning. The ± band shown next to the velocity is the realistic spread, not a guarantee. If the birds overnight and there is no day-one winner, the tool will not be accurate.
The manual speed tool: enter the race distance and the flight time and it returns the velocity in m/min, with km/h, mph and yards per minute.
Give it the race distance and how long the bird was on the wing, and it returns the velocity in m/min, with handy conversions to km/h, yards per minute and mph. The full in-app version has three modes:
Velocity (m/min) = distance (m) ÷ flight time (min)
Conversions: km/h = m/min × 0.06 · yards/min = m/min ÷ 0.9144 · mph = km/h ÷ 1.609
Worked example: a 350 km race (350,000 m) flown in 5 hours (300 minutes) = 350000 ÷ 300 ≈ 1166 m/min, or about 70 km/h.
It's a quick race tool — it works out raw speed and doesn't adjust for wind or terrain. For wind analysis per bird, upload your race results in the main app, or try the AI-Assisted ETA above.
